History[]

The Rekowicz residence, referred to sometimes as the Red House, was the settlement of Thomas Rekowicz and his family ever since he was about eighteen. It's located in the forest of the Niwa Workers' Resort. In 1966, his unnamed wife married him, and a few years later, they had a child, Lilianne. At some point, he built an underground bunker connected to the house, coated with salt, which did not exist in the Spirit Realm, thus putting Thomas somewhere he was entirely separate from his counterpart. Lily spent most of her time in the dayroom of Niwa, under the care of Richard. Richard was in fact sexually abusing Lily, and this caused her soul to split in half, according to a note in the bunker under the Red House. After Marianne was born, Thomas' wife died. Eventually Henry, a government agent, investigated Niwa and burnt down the Rekowicz residence. Ever since then, the spiritual version of the house has remained violently smoldering as a symbol. Thomas and Lilianne remained in the bunker, Lilianne particularly to keep the now-developed Maw from escaping. Eventually, it physically left the bunker by force. By the time the game has started, the Maw is roaming through Niwa, and Lily is no longer remaining in the bunker, while Thomas' whereabouts are unknown. Marianne is directed to the Red House by the Childeater, who is the first to refer to the building as the Red House. She explores the Spirit version of the house via a mirror connected to the triangulation of a dollhouse, unraveling certain secrets about her past. Entering the bunker, she repairs a mirror and Spirit Thomas is able to return to the Spirit Realm. The Maw arrives inside the residence due to Marianne's presence there, and Thomas remains in the bunker to delay it.
