The Fort Pulaski consists a historical site which is found inside the Niwa's Nature Park. Inside the site there is an abandoned fort of the 19th-century and acts as a landmark for the broader environment of the Niwa Resort.[1]
Sometime before the events of The Medium, the site has been listed as a landmark and a renovation project has taken place, which has been abandoned sometime before 1983 due to the closure of the Niwa Resort following the Niwa's Massacre.[2]
Environment[]
The historical site consists of a very big fortress which is partially destroyed and overtaken by nature. The total of the infrastructure consists of stone and bricks with many openings facing the dense forest which functions as a closed space only accessible via a big gate. Many areas of the fort has been flooded possibly because of the neglect and the decay this area has seen the last decades. In some places inside the site, many walls and foundations has been supported with wooden scaffolding in order to not collapse.[3]
Renovation of 1983[]
At the gates of the Niwa's Nature Park there is an existing sign which informs the guests and visitors of the forest that the nearby fortress will be renovated and restored in order to accept public and act as a historical site of big importance. According to the sign the renovation project possibly has started sometime prior the Niwa's Massacre and was projected to finish in 1983. However, after the events of the Niwa's Massacre and the abandonment of the resort, the project has been abandoned as well. [4]
During the events of The Medium which take place in 1999, many construction machines and scaffoldings has been still left intact, indicating that this place has seen better days.[5]
Gameplay[]
During the events of The Medium, Marianne gets chased after interacting with Francis's corpse, the Niwa's groundkeeper in the nature park and ending up in the gate of the fort. Inside she must follow certain paths and routes in order to avoid getting killed by the Maw. During her explore she finds out a generator which can be used to defeat the beast. After finding the proper tools she uses the machine to kill the Maw and exit the area.[6]
