Lilianne Rekowicz, Lily, (pol. Lilianna, Lilia) and referred to as Sadness by Marianne, is the tertiary protagonist of The Medium. Her spiritual form resembles a young girl who resides in the spiritual world version of the Niwa Resort. In the material world, she is the older sister of Marianne and the daughter of Thomas Rekowicz. She is also responsible for the creation of The Maw, the main antagonistic force of the game.
Biography[]
She was born to Thomas Rekowicz and his unnamed wife sometime after 1966, at the Niwa Workers’ Resort. She lived a happy life, until she may have assumed her mother died giving birth to Marianne. At some point before or after then, at the dayroom of Niwa, Richard sexually assaulted her, and “awoke something deep inside her.” This something, when Henry Wilk performed arson on their residence, was set free by Lilianne to save her and her sister. It took the form of the Maw, and remained loyal to Lilianne until she was quarantined by Thomas. At this point, it broke out and caused the Niwa Massacre, shutting the hotel down. Lilianne may have remained at the lake from that point on, though it’s unclear if she resided there or simply spent most of her time on the pier that she frequently dreamt she died to a gunshot there from a man. Marianne shared this dream, ever since she was small, up until she visited Niwa. Marianne eventually journeyed to the lake, where Lily was waiting for her. Lily handed her sister a gun, and pleaded to die, due to the torture that life was for her. As the Maw arrives, Marianne realizes that her own death will also subdue the Maw. Marianne shoots as she is cornered. The screen is black, and it is unknown whether Lily was sent to peace along with the Maw, or continued to live a tortured life.

General[]
- As Sadness - Sadness is a slim, averaged height girl who appears to be 12-13 years old. Her hair is tied into pigtails and has fair skin. She is also missing her right arm along with having holes that are visible from underneath the edges of her clothing.
- As Lily - Lily is about the same height as her sister Marianne, she has noticeably paler skin possibly due to the fact that she was locked away by her father, Thomas. She also has greyish eyes and short hair that is dark grey with grey streaks.
Wardrobe[]
- As Sadness - Lily wears a green, plaid school girls uniform with white short sleeves, knee high socks, and a ruffled collar. She bears the iconic mask of souls trapped in the spiritual world.
- As Lily - Lily wears a dirty, ripped red cardigan with a long sleeve dress shirt with its sleeves rolled up. She has a very dirty, white skirt covered in leaves. She also wears bloody bandages on both her forearms and legs.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Seemingly those of Marianne and Thomas - When Thomas reveals himself to Marianne, he reveals that she too is a medium, meaning that it's possible these powers are inherited. He also mentions that Lilianne is very powerful, meaning that she most likely has both her father and sister's powers, in addition to her own.
- Creation of The Maw - Lily reveals to Marianne that she created The Maw, saying that the monster was summoned from a tormented part of her soul.
