Marianne Rekowicz (pol. Marianna) is a Medium, a person who can commune with the dead and the Spirit World they reside in. On the day of her foster father's funeral, she receives a phone call from someone named Thomas who claims that he can help her with finding out the true nature of her power. Interested, she arrives at the Niwa, where she is now forced to survive and unravel the mystery behind its abandonment.
Biography[]
The game begins with Marianne in her foster parent, Jack's, apartment. Jack had passed a few days prior and it's left up to Marianne to assist with Jack's funeral home's business. She looks for and finds Jack's tie clip and prepare him for his funeral. Marianne makes her way down to the mortuary area and gives him his tie clip, once she puts the clip on, the lights start to flicker. She goes back up to Jack's office and gets a phone call from someone named Thomas, begging her to come to the Niwa Resort and that he knows about her powers and is able to explain to her where she got them from.
Marianne arrives at a derelict and abandoned Niwa Resort and is able to get inside. In the lobby, she splits into the material world and spiritual world. In the spiritual world she encounters Sadness who offers to help Marianne find Thomas. Marianne makes her way to the second floor of the resort and finds Thomas's office. She discovers a secret room with a red room, after developing the photos she discovers that the photos are her taken without her knowledge. Here she encounters The Maw, who Marianne escapes from.
Personality[]
Marianne is a genuinely good person, going out of her way to help freeing trapped spirits. She even agrees to send away Richard, despite Richard being a horrible person, as his wish was to cease existing due to the amount of pain he lived in. In her encounter with Sadness, she is very nice to the spirit and wanted to protect her from the monsters inhabiting the Niwa.
Physical description[]
General[]
One of her defining features are burn scars received due to an arson attack by Henry Wilks. Hospital reports say it covers about 35% of her body,[1] but only the scars on her left cheek are visible. When in the physical world, Marianne has fair skin with freckles. She has tied-up, wavy hair with bangs and brown eyes. When in the spirit world, her appearance is slightly altered, having grey-blue eyes and white hair.
Wardrobe[]
Marianne wears a red turtleneck layered with a leather jacket. She also wears boots and denim, boot-cut jeans. Her wears a necklace of a butterfly broken in half. Her clothes in the spiritual world are virtually identically, except for frills that cover her left arm that glow a purple-white neon light when charged from spirit wells.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Astral Projection - Marianne is able to disconnect her spirit from her physical body in order to travel through areas in the spirit world that are blocked off in the material world. While astral projecting, she can only remain disconnected from her physical body for a period of time, as her spirit slowly begins fading and crumbling away the longer she's disconnected from her own body. She is also able to pick up objects that exist in the spirit world which she will keep when she reconnects with her physical body.
- Spirit Shield - Marianne can create a shield around herself by using spiritual energy collected from spirit wells. This shield is mainly utilized as a form of protection against the moths in the spirit world which burn up the moment they get close while the shield is being generated.
- Spirit Blast - Marianne can release a blast of spiritual energy, which requires taking spiritual energy from a spirit well. This blast is able to supply electricity to certain objects n the Material World, as well as hurt spirits as seen when she released a spirit blast during her first encounter with the Maw which stunned it long enough for her to make a getaway.
- Exorcism - Marianne is able to "send away" spirits that she knows the name of, and is also able to send away more evil spirits such as the Childeater and the Hound.
